Top 20: Chapters 12 And 16
This week, we are focusing on learning more about the Top 20 Topics of Creating a Culture of Belonging (Ch. 12) and Focus and Listen in the Zone (Ch. 16). In order to better create a culture of belonging, we make an effort at Saint Mark's to call students by name. This helps the students feel valuable because they are recognized daily. It also improves their behavior and level of engagement throughout the school day. In order to handle conflict constructively, we encourage the students to sort through problems by seeing them as a chance to discover how the other person operates and how their needs may be different from our own, rather than growing frustrated that we don't see eye to eye with each other right away. Families that invest a few minutes in each month's Top 20 Curriculum are sure to benefit from their time with this thoughtful program. For more information, check out Chapters 12 and 16 in the Top 20 Journal. Journals are still available for pick up at any time in the Lion's Den!

Thirsty Lion Beer Sampler Success
We enjoyed a fantastic turnout of current Markers, alumni, and prospective families. The Any Day Now rocked two great sets, Chef Mike Torres served delicious tacos, and the beer flowed like water. The entire event was made possible by lots of hands, but the four most active hands on this event were those of Jana Hayden-Sofio, Patti Rhodus, and Jim and Sharon Nordquist. The next time you see one of these remarkable Markers, please be sure to thank them for all of their hard work, and commend them for their great success. We look forward to celebrating a new school year with even more of you next year!

Volunteer Information
We would like to thank all of our volunteers (past, present, and future!) for their service to our school and community. Your role is imperative to the success of Saint Marks! We would also like to remind families that they are expected to volunteer 10 hours of their time each school year. Please fill out this volunteer interest form and we can get you set up to complete your hours. Your investment of time and talent is critical to our success. Thank you! By completing the form, you can be sure that you get to volunteer on the projects that you will find most enjoyable and meaningful.

This year's CARE-a-Thon will be the week of October 30th-November 3rd. We are excited to announce that we will be traveling to local organizations to work on service projects with the children throughout the week. Keep an eye out for more information in the weekend update and in the children's back packs!
