Increasing Creativity and Problem Solving through Math.
Saint Mark’s offers Math Club for Grades 5 through 8. Grade level groups meet weekly to solve challenging math problems in preparation for Math Masters competition.
Math club is a fun activity that helps students develop intuitive thinking skills and learn new types of math. Students are challenged to take knowledge they’ve learned in their classes and apply it in a different context to solve fun and challenging problems. Working together as a Math Club provides opportunity to:
- Participate in academic teamwork
- Experience the joy of finding the solution to a difficult problem
- Challenge oneself to use previous knowledge to invent new strategies
- Increase creativity in finding solutions
Students will participate in the Math Masters competition in the spring. In 2012, more than 5,000 students are expected to gather at more than 39 sites to compete individually and as teams. These competitions are the culmination of special preparation during which students work to improve their math skills.
